Why I keep a now page
A page that says what I am doing and when I am free. It answers most of the email I used to get.

There is a page on this site called now. It says what I am working on, when I am next available and what I am reading. I update it every few weeks.
It started as a way to answer the "are you available?" email without writing it fifty times. It has become the page I point everyone to.
What goes on it
- What I am working on, in one or two lines, without naming the client unless they are happy to be named.
- When I am next free. The single most useful line on the whole site.
- One or two things I am reading or thinking about, so it reads like a person wrote it.
What does not
Anything that will be stale in a week. Anything I would be embarrassed by in a year.
Why it works
People who are thinking about hiring you want to know if you are free and what you are like. A now page answers both in ten seconds, and it is honest in a way a portfolio is not.
